A Spencer Gellise Salon turns fourteen on March 30, 2018 and we are ready to celebrate! Each year, as our anniversary approaches, I am filled with gratitude that we’ve had the privilege of yet another year of seeing our vision come to fruition.
I’ll never forget the first time we set foot in our building. There we stood, two young women in our early 20’s, in the middle of a vacant salon that had sat untouched and unloved for many years. The walls were painted from ceiling to floor in terracotta—which is brownish-pink, in case you were wondering. The stations were plastered in Formica that looked like an explosion of Rock N’ Rye and the windows were covered in dark purple shutters. It may not have looked like much to others, but to us, it embodied everything our dreams were made of! We could clearly see the luxurious and trendy environment that we hoped to share with our community. We could envision it bustling with busy stylists, working together to give the guests an exceptional salon experience. Yes, this could be the oasis that our guests would enjoy while getting pampered and receiving outstanding service.
People often comment about how brave we were to have embarked on this journey at such a young age. We simply look at each other with that “knowing” smile and laugh a little in our hearts. Brave, huh? The truth is, the idea that we might fail at this never even crossed our minds. We were driven by our passion and so determined to see our vision come to life that we just knew it would work.
As we approach fourteen years, I look out over the salon, bursting with activity, and realize that it has not been our passion and tenacity alone that breathed life into our vision. It would still merely be a vision if it weren’t for the support of our dedicated community, faithful guests, and loyal team. A Spencer Gellise Salon is located in Bay City, MI and proudly serves the Great Lakes Bay Region. We consider it a privilege and an honor to work with such an amazing team, serving the best guests a salon could ask for. We love what we do every day. Because of you!
